All About Them: Spring Fairy Hunt

A Spring Fairy Hunt was one of the activities on our Spring Bucket List. It is an idea I came up with one day while trying to come up with fun things the kids could do outside once it was nice out. I see a lot of great ideas for scavenger hunts online, but my kids can’t read quite yet, so I wanted to come up with a hunt that would work for them without my help. One day I was looking at some of Harper’s art supplies and found some cute fairy stickers that I bought at The Dollar Tree and the idea was born. I went back to the dollar store to see if I could find some new fairy stickers. I found the perfect ones, took them home and attached them to popsicle sticks.

I was planning on waiting until the yard bloomed and we planted flowers before we did the hunt since that’s more “fairy-like”, but since this week is Hudson’s spring break, I thought it would be a fun activity for them. I was right. They loved it. They had so much fun that we had to do it five more times and then Hudson wanted to hide them for me to hunt! They even wanted to do it again in the house, which we did about 20 more times. Hooray for a successful idea!

Here’s a look at the fairies and the hunt.

Like I said, the kids loved this and we’ll for sure be doing it again. I’d like to figure out a fun summer themed hunt to add to our Summer Bucket List.

Another activity crossed off our list. On to the next!

Spring Bucket List

I mentioned yesterday that I was thinking about making a Spring Bucket List/Spring Family Fun List. Well, I made one and I’m sharing it with you today. It is available for you to download.**PLEASE NOTE: This download is for personal use only**  To print your own copy simply right-click on the image and save it to your computer and print.

I hope it inspires you to get outdoors and enjoy the new season!

You might notice that some of the activities on the list are repeats from previous Summer or Fall lists. I decided to repeat a few that were on the lists that either never got crossed off because we didn’t get to them or were activities on the list that we did when Harper was a baby and she couldn’t really participate in, such as painting birdhouses.

I can’t wait to start having some Springtime fun!

Spring has Sprung!

I think it’s safe to say that Spring has finally arrived here in the Midwest…well, my part of the Midwest anyway. Bright blue skies, lots of sunshine, warmer temps and Robins are all good signs that Winter is on its way out. We’ve had four days that the temps reaches 60+ within the past week or so. And looking ahead at the forecast, it shows 50’s & 60’s. I’ll take it! I’ll take anything above 40 at this point!

With temps on the rise, I’ve been thinking about all the things I want to do outside this Spring and Summer. Here is a list of everything I would like to do and get done outside the house. You know I love a good list!

  • Host a launch party for my photography business (I would love for this to be outdoors instead of in, but it’s definitely up to Mother Nature)
  • Plan & Plant a garden (I want to involve Jeremy and the kids this year)
  • Get a swing set for the kids
  • Remove about 7 bushes from our backyard
  • Plant tall grasses where we remove the bushes
  • Powerwash and stain our deck
  • Seed and Fertilize the lawn
  • Plant flowers…a lot more flowers this year
  • Empty the sandbox and refill with pea gravel instead of sand
  • Plan a family vacation
  • Take the kids camping for the first time
  • Lots and lots of family outings (I’ll be listing these on our Summer Family Fun List again this year. You can check out last year’s list here.)
  • Get a new front door
  • Wash the windows
  • Spray paint projects (I can’t spray paint all winter because it’s too cold out, even in our heated garage)

Whoa…that’s a lot of stuff! I could probably keep going, but I think I’ll stop there before I totally overwhelm myself! Ha ha! I hope the weather sticks so that I can get going on this list as soon as possible.

I was also thinking about maybe creating a Spring Family Fun List this year. I have a list for every other season, so it seems fitting to make one for Spring as well.

What are your plans for the new season? Are you as excited as I am?!

Update: Fall Bucket List

We’ve had a ton of fun crossing activities off our Fall Bucket List this year! Our fall has seriously been magical. The weather has been perfect for getting out of the house and enjoying all the beauty of autumn.

As you can see, we’ve been very busy having fun. We’re still hoping to make it to an apple orchard this weekend even if we can’t pick our own apples anymore. There’s an orchard close to Omaha that makes apple donuts. That’s reason enough to visit!

And of course, there’s still time to make a couple of turkey crafts before Thanksgiving rolls around.

I’m just not sure we’ll get to have a fire to roast marshmallows though. Every time it’s been warm enough to sit outside it’s also been really windy. High winds and fires don’t mix. But this weekend may work. The kids love roasted marshmallows, so I hate to miss that one.

Autumn seems to be coming to a close here in Omaha. The trees have slowly been losing all their leaves and the beautiful colors are disappearing. I’m not ready to say goodbye just yet though, so I plan to relish in every last second of it before the dreaded snow comes along!

A couple of weeks ago we took the kids to the Wildlife Safari to see the animals one more time and to get in a hike (one of the activities on our list) to Frog Pond. It was a gorgeous day. One of my favorites of the season!

Please excuse our dirty dashboard and the crack in our windshield. We really need to get that fixed! IMG_9773

I hope you all have been enjoying fall where you live!

Autumn In Omaha

I don’t know if it’s just because I’m getting older and I didn’t pay attention when I was younger, but I have really been blown away by the all brilliant colors that have burst across Omaha this autumn! It’s gorgeous! I can’t get over all the yellows, red, oranges, purples and greens everywhere.

I am absolutely loving October this year!

I only wish it could last longer, but since it’s such a short season, I’m determined to enjoy every last bit of it.

Today the kids and I are making pine cone bird feeders to hang in the backyard and another Halloween craft and then I think I’ll bake another fall treat… maybe these or these. Both look delicious!

Have you been baking pumpkin or apple treats? Are you getting out and enjoying the fall weather and foliage? Any big plans for the weekend?

This weekend we are going to my dad’s 60th birthday dinner, taking fall family photos and carving pumpkins. I would love to squeeze in a late movie with the hubby. Has anyone seen Gravity yet?! I’m dying to see it!

See you tomorrow!

A Perfect Fall Day

Yesterday my little family and I got out to enjoy the beautiful fall weather before it disappears. We started our day by picking up some coffee and heading out for a fall drive through a local forest. It was a calm, cool morning and perfect for a drive. After our drive we went home so I could pack a picnic.IMG_9277IMG_9278IMG_9283IMG_9284

I didn’t have time like I had planned to make our lunch this time, so we opted to grab some Panera instead, with homemade pumpkin bars for dessert. Sometimes keeping it simple is the way to go. I packed our basket with everything we needed, we picked up our food and went to a park on a lake. It was so much fun! I’ve always wanted to go on a fall picnic. I loved all of it! Once we were finished eating, the kids played at the playground for a bit and then we went for a walk along the lake and down by the water. The kids were having so much fun.IMG_9297IMG_9300IMG_9303IMG_9305Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

We still needed to run an errands, so we had to leave the lake and the kids weren’t very happy about that, but once we were home we played in the leaves out in the backyard. Even that was fun and we were able to cross two activities off of our Fall Bucket List!IMG_9371IMG_9374IMG_9377IMG_9383IMG_9384IMG_9388IMG_9397

So far, this fall has been magic! I can’t wait for what’s next!

Our Fall Bucket List

Now that it’s officially fall, I thought I would share with you one of our little traditions. For the past four years (since Hudson was born) I’ve been creating us a Fall Bucket List. Yep, we have a Summer Family Fun List and a Fall Bucket List. Have I ever mentioned that I like lists?!

There are a few activities that we love to do every fall, so I like to be sure that we get them all in, plus a few extras. I tend to keep the regulars on the list every year. You know, pumpkin patch, carve pumpkins, hike, etc. But I also like to try to incorporate a few new activities each year too, like going out for coffee and donuts or make a turkey craft.

Fall is such a magical time! I can’t wait to start having fun!

Here is our Fall Bucket List for 2013.

I would love to hear about your autumn adventures if you decide to join in the fun!

Ready For Fall

As I prepare to attend the first Nebraska football game of this season (and my first game in four years!!!) this coming weekend, I’m reminded of a couple of weeks ago, and how it seemed as though summer was long gone as the cool temps set in and teased us with the possibility of an early autumn. However, this past weekend, summer reappeared in full force, and I have to admit that I’m not really loving it. I was semi complaining about the temps being too cool too soon and dreading the thought of an early winter so I wished for a “few” more days of lots of sun and temps in the 90’s. Well, I’m getting my wish with our forecast predicting temps in the 100’s for most of the week. Ugh. What have I done?!

I take it all back! I want the cooler temps in the upper 70’s and low 80’s again. With Hudson starting preschool next week (Yikes!), I’m ready for the beginning of a new season, a fresh start if you will. I’ll even admit that after I gave our house a nice good cleaning on Friday, I decided I couldn’t hold out any longer, and lit my pumpkin spice candle. It smelled amazing.

I adore fall. There’s something about it that is just magic. I love the crisp mornings and cool evenings. I love the colors. I love football; college football that is. I love all things pumpkin flavored and scented. I love sweaters and blankets and the return of comfort food, especially chili. I love pumpkins resting on front porches and the smell of fires burning. I get excited just thinking about it!

I thought I wasn’t ready for summer to come to a close, but I changed my mind. I’m completely ready to shut the book on summer (and these ridiculously hot & humid temps) this year and move on to the magic that is fall.

I found this quote on Pinterest this weekend and couldn’t agree more.

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”      F. Scott Fitzgerald

I’m awaiting a delivery of a bunch of photos today and plan to spend my afternoon in the air conditioning working on my Project Life and playing with the kids.

Happy Monday!
