Project Life 2014-Intro Page

I wanted to do something different this year for my intro/cover page in my Project Life album. I’ve seen some awesome intros and was inspired. Since I loved my coin pocket page from my December Daily so much, I decided to do something similar for my PL.

But because I was adding a coin pocket page in the very front, I needed something neutral, something that wouldn’t take the focus off it. I designed a quick 12×12 page that could be cut to fit the standard pocket page. I’m seriously so stoked about how it turned out!

DSC_0524 DSC_0525 DSC_0527

I wanted a combination of see-through elements, embellishments, patterned paper and photos.

I used 3×4 cards from the Seafoam and Midnight editions which I cut down to 2×2 squares. I’m obsessed with that black and white cross paper. And in case you’re wondering, yes, it does look exactly like my DIYed curtains! Obsessed.

DSC_0529

I even added my One Little Word, Choose, into a pocket.DSC_0531

I had a full sheet and some smaller pieces of that awesome star overlay left from my December Daily and just had to use it too.DSC_0536

And now for the back side and the enlarged 12×12 photo.

I kept it simple and used only the black and white cross paper. It looks a little funky because of the see-through pockets, but it works for me.DSC_0541

DSC_0538

And I’m lurrrrving my giant ampersand! I love that it’s black and white and huge! I also love that if I want to add anything to it at some point I can. But, for the moment, I think it’s super awesome!DSC_0543DSC_0544DSC_0546

Then once you turn the page, it will be the first week of January’s spread.

I’m so excited to be starting another album with this new year. And this finished intro makes me even more excited.

Have a great weekend!

Project Life 2014-Getting Started

I’ve only just started working on my Project Life cover page for 2014. I’m awaiting a 12×12 print to arrived from Persnickety Prints before I can finish it. Then I have to start printing out the photos for January. I am so behind! Oh, and I’m still wrapping up 2013.

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to go about Project Life this year. I love my albums so much. They are a lot fun to look through and be reminded of all the little moments from our past. But sometimes it can be hard to keep up with weekly. Especially when you run out of ink in your printer and its way too cold out to even leave the house to get more. That being said, I still plan to do the weekly documentation this year. My first album was monthly and then my second and third were weekly and I prefer the weekly albums. I’m not sure why, but I like them better.

As far as the kit goes, I still have a lot of cards left in my Seafoam kit from last year, so I wasn’t sure if I would purchase another one. Plus, I have a digital version of the Midnight Edition and none of the other kits really got me excited. I like elements of a bunch of them, but not enough to buy them.

That was true until last week, when Becky Higgins announced that Jo-Ann Stores would be carrying an exclusive kit called the Kiwi Edition. It’s a bit bright, but I’m really liking most of the card designs and think that they’ll work well with my photos because a lot of them are of the kiddos and they often have bright clothing on or are surrounded by brightly colored toys. I also think I will be able to mix in the Seafoam edition and the Midnight edition.

Here’s a little peek:

I just got a 40 % coupon for Jo-Ann in my email this morning, so I’ll be picking up my kit this weekend. I’m excited to get this year started even if I’m a little late to the party.

Project Life-Weeks Nineteen & Twenty

I’m really going to try to catch up on not only the work on my Project Life album, but also getting all of the weekly spreads posted. Now that it’s October, I’m already starting to think about and plan for my December Daily album, but more on that later. Anyway, I need to get caught up on PL, so that I can keep up with both albums.

Week Nineteen

I didn’t add much for embellishments this week, and now that I look at it, I didn’t add very much for journaling either. I think I may have to go back and add some simple white labels, so that I can include a few more words.

DSC_0119

I did add a “mom” button to a picture taken with the kids on Mother’s Day.DSC_0122

Another little addition instead of using just one photo, I combined three photos into one in order to document that I had some of my favorite things on Mother’s Day weekend. I included our movie ticket stubs as well. Love adding those little paper keepsakes.DSC_0123

Week Twenty

Another really simple week. I added a few of Ali Edwards photo overlays and some glittery letters.

DSC_0126 DSC_0127

DSC_0128

If I have a 4×6 photo that I want to include, but run out of space, I like to cut it into two 3×4 photos. DSC_0129

Sometimes keeping it simple works and other times, you need (and want) more embellishing.

I was working on my album last night and realizing just how much I truly love it. Jeremy teases me about taking pictures of silly things sometimes, but those silly photos document all of the small details of our everyday lives and they are pretty cool to see later. I appreciate these albums so much already, I can only imagine what it will be like to look back on them twenty years from now.

Project Life-Weeks Seventeen and Eighteen

As I mentioned last week, I did a lot of Project Life catch up last week and am feeling pretty good about my progress. I’m still a little behind, but I’m getting there!

Week Seventeen

This was Hudson’s birthday week so there is a lot going on.

DSC_0004

Here I used my a piece of scrapbook paper cut to 4×6 and added a Project Life Midnight Edition digital card on top and then added the glitter letter stickers to spell his name.DSC_0005

To document his actual birthday, I used a 6×12 insert and sewed the 4×6 pockets once I had the photos inserted. There are photos in both the front and back sides.DSC_0006

I stapled a glittered star to this photo. I bought them on etsy.com a while back and can’t remember what store. Sorry.DSC_0007

Here is what the back side looks like.DSC_0008

Behind the 6×12 insert I added a Design D insert to document his birthday party.  I cut off the outer row of 6×4 pockets.DSC_0009

DSC_0010

Here is what the back looks like.   DSC_0011

For the back page of the spread I added his invitation and a few photos from the rest of the weekend.DSC_0013

I put this photo collage together in Photoshop so that I could include more from that outing that I didn’t have the space for if I had added the full photos. That’s a great trick if you run out of space and can shrink your photos into a collage.DSC_0014

Week Eighteen

Not much to report this week. We were home and just hanging out. The kids did get to celebrate their first May Day. I had never done it before because I was waiting until they got a little older. All I did was make them little May baskets with popcorn and M&M’s. I even had to make sure Harper’s popcorn didn’t have any kernal shells because kids aren’t really supposed to have it until they’re four. She didn’t like it anyway and I ended up eating it for her! Exciting stuff. I know.

DSC_0015

It snowed AGAIN this week, so I took a photo and added some text to it in Photoshop.DSC_0017

Here is took one of the 3×4 journaling cards and added a little extra text making it say “this never happen”. Simple.DSC_0019

Catching up feels good! I’m in the process of working on my projects, so I’ll be back tomorrow with some of that!

And as always, if you would like to know more about what products I used, please leave a comment.

Project Life-Weeks Fourteen, Fifteen & Sixteen

I’m back with another Project Life update. I’ve been having a hard time catching up with everything else I’ve been working on lately. Not to mention that I ran out of printer ink again while finishing up my December Daily from this past Christmas. Yes, you read that correctly. I’ve been finishing up a Christmas project for the past few weeks. I really wanted to get it finished so I could pack it away and be able to pull it with all our Christmas stuff this Winter. It’s been haunting me…but it’s finally done.

Anyway, I digress. On to my Project Life album. There’s not really anything special about these three weeks of layouts. Simple, but awesome as always.

Week Fourteen

I love this photo of Harper, so I decided to make it bigger. That’s a great trick to take up space if you didn’t take very many photos during the week. DSC_0237DSC_0238DSC_0240

Week Fifteen

DSC_0243

Here I added my concert stub from the Bon Jovi concert into the small pocket. And I love adding the see, hear, taste, touch, smell cards. I sewed this one onto a 4×6 piece of cardstock.DSC_0247

I also love to write directly onto the photos whenever possible. Love this look with the text following the shape of the bowl.DSC_0246DSC_0244

Another little tip if you have more photos and not enough room for all your journaling, is to do the journaling for two photos on one card and include arrows to show which goes with what. Simple.DSC_0248

Week Sixteen

This week I included the news story about the Boston bombing because it was pretty much all that was on TV and the radio throughout the week. Sometimes I like to include news stories and sometimes I don’t. I guess it sort of depends on what else I have to add to the album, but since I watched a ton of the coverage, I decided to add it.DSC_0250DSC_0251

On the True Story card, I added a quote from Hudson. I’ve been doing this a lot in this album. He is constantly saying things to crack us up and I want to be able to go back and read them when he gets older. Plus, it’s so hard to remember everything. It’s amazing how fast you forget that stuff when you’re a parent because your brain is always on overload!DSC_0252

I ordered a bunch of photos from Persnickety Prints to help me get truly caught up, so once I get those I’ll be able to work, work, work. I love sitting down for a couple of hours at a time and working away. It’s awesome when my creative juices really get flowing!

My goal is to get completely up to date so that I can post my layouts in real-time.

If you have any questions about Project Life or anything I used in my layouts feel free to leave a comments.

Project Life-Weeks Twelve & Thirteen

Hi! I’m finally doing another Project Life post! It’s been a really long time since I’ve been caught up enough to post. I had a few weeks where I added one or two extra inserts and today I’ll be showing you one of those. I love week thirteen! It’s the week of my birthday and I’m so happy with how the layout and inserts ended up.

**These photos aren’t the greatest because they were taken with my phone while my kids were bouncing around me**

Week Twelve

I didn’t really add anything special this week, except a drawing that Harper did for me.

IMG_7064 IMG_7065

I did a lot of writing on my pictures on this page. IMG_7066

Week Thirteen

This was the week of my birthday and Easter, so I packed a lot of stuff into this spread. I added two different inserts and added lots of embellishments.

This first photo shows the week with the inserts included.IMG_7067

Here is a look at the first page of the spread.IMG_7068

And here is the back page without the inserts.IMG_7069

The back page with the inserts. You can see Design D behind Design J. (Both page designs used are Project Life products by Becky Higgins.)IMG_7070

This insert that I used to document my birthday is Design J. I use these a lot when I want to include 4×4 Instagram photos. Love these! For my birthday I decided to go with a black, white and gold color scheme. Awesome.IMG_7071

I knew I wanted to add some fine gold glitter to one of the 3×4 pockets, but didn’t think sewing the pocket closed would keep the glitter from getting out, so instead I bought a package of 2.5×3.5 self-seal laminating pouches (from Target). I simply sprinkled the glitter onto the sticky side of the pouch and sealed it. Then I went back and added the 33 stickers right on the front of the pouch and inserted it into the pocket. Totally love this and will definitely do more of it throughout the book.IMG_7072

I tried to get a more detailed shot of the glitter, but it’s so hard to capture how awesome it actually looks.IMG_7073

This is the back side of the insert.IMG_7074

For my Easter insert, I used Design D and cut off the additional vertical 6×4 pockets from the left side. I love that it’s just slightly bigger than Design J, so when looking at the spread it can be seen sticking out just a bit further. I’m loving how this turned out!IMG_7075

IMG_7076

Here is a look at the end of the week including the inserts.IMG_7077

I’m obsessed with this photo!IMG_7078

On this photo I added a “hi summer” badge button from Evalicious. Love those buttons!IMG_7079

Getting caught up on Project Life posts for the win!

If you have any questions about anything I did or the products I used, please feel free to leave a comment in the comments section or email me.

I hope you have a great week!

Last week was crazy for us around here, so I’m looking forward to some lazy summer days this week!

Project Life-Week Eleven

I ran out of photo paper to print my photos for Project Life, so I’ve fallen behind again. But I’ve been working on getting caught up again the past couple days. Here is what I have completed so far.

Week Eleven

DSC_0391 DSC_0392

DSC_0393

One thing I did this week that I haven’t done yet in this album was cutting a 4×6 in half and splitting it across the two layouts. I like the look of it and it works great if you have a lot of photos for a particular week.DSC_0395

I did try something new by using one of the 3×4 cards from the kit and added it next to a 4×4 Instagram. I like how it turned out and am sure I’ll do it again.DSC_0396

On the picture below, I used some of Elise Cripe’s stamps directly on the photo for the kids Easter eggs. Love these stamps. They work awesome for photos involving Jeremy and I, as well as, the kids.DSC_0398

So there you have it. Not a very exciting week, but a very busy week full of kid-friendly activities!

If you have any questions about Project Life  just leave them in the comments section.

Have a great day!

Project Life-Weeks Eight, Nine & Ten

As promised, because I’m sure you could hardly stand the suspense, I’m back with weeks eight, nine and ten of Project Life.

Here we go…

Week Eight

Our weeks have seemed pretty uneventful lately. I think we’re all in a funk over the weather. I mean, come on already Mother Nature, this girl needs some sunshine and green grass! Not to mention that the kiddos are going bananas being cooped up in the house for so long. Where are you Spring??!!

DSC_0175

I really like the half snow half soup photo and like the text added to it. The font is Bebas.DSC_0177

DSC_0179

Here I wanted to be able to add more photos of us building our terrarium, so I made a small collage using Photoshop and bits of photos of all of us. I really like the look.DSC_0181

I love writing directly on photos. I’ve tried to incorporate more of that in this album than previous albums. I get nervous doing it though because I worry that I’ll screw up. And I’m not very fond of my handwriting, but whatever.DSC_0182

Week Nine

I used my usual Seafoam kit and some Ali Edwards digital elements this week. Nothing really special.

DSC_0184

I like adding photos of the new recipes I make so that I can go back later when I’m having a hard time figuring out what to make. I’m also slowly building up our favorite recipes in order to put together our own family cookbook someday. I only document the ones we like.DSC_0186

DSC_0188

I love adding photos of everyday rituals; things that aren’t really “important”, but they are. You know what I mean? I want to remember that we loved going to Starbucks every Saturday morning and then for a drive with the kids. It won’t last forever, but it’s part of our weekends now and I love that.DSC_0189

DSC_0191

Week Ten

DSC_0192

Instead of using a tag to journal on this picture below, I did it using Photoshop. I don’t do this a lot because it feels too time consuming. I don’t mind adding a small amount of text to my photos, but I get bored doing the journaling this way.DSC_0195

DSC_0197

I like to add in small papers to remember certain things, so I added my ticket stub from the movies.DSC_0199

So, that does it! I’m all caught up. I’ll be finishing last week today and I’ll post it this weekend.

Ahhh, so glad that’s done!

Project Life-Weeks Six & Seven

Today it’s weeks six and seven of Project Life. I’m starting to get into the groove of it again and I’m loving it!

Week Six

For some reason the picture of the first page is missing, so you can only see half of it on the left hand side. But you get the gist.

DSC_0163

DSC_0165

This is one of my favorite photos of Harper. It’s exactly how she looks most of the time because she’s still growing out her bangs and they never stay out of her face no matter how hard I try!

DSC_0166

I also included a photo of The Walking Dead cast that I printed out because the season started up again and we were so excited. I like to include elements like this so that some day down the road we can look back and remember the things that we were loving at the time.DSC_0167

I used some of Ali Edwards digital elements this week as always.DSC_0168

Week Seven

This was the week of Valentine’s Day, so I used more hearts and pink than usual. We also took a trip up to Sioux Falls to visit my parents and see my sister’s family. The kids love trips to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

DSC_0170

I used Ali’s digital elements here and another technique that I love to incorporate is writing on the actual photos. I used an American Crafts slick writer in black.DSC_0171

I added some photos that I took with my Instax mini while we were at the zoo. I love these little pictures and try to remember to use that camera.DSC_0172

The picture of Jeremy and I is actually a post from Facebook that he posted and I simply took a screen shot of it on my phone and then printed out as a 4×6. I added a couple of strips of washi tape to embellish it and used my slick writer to write around the photo.DSC_0173

DSC_0174

DSC_0176

I’m basically all caught up now. I have a little bit of journaling to do for weeks eight and nine and then I’ll get those posted later this week. From then on, it will be real-time updates! Yay! I hate getting caught up, but am glad that I’m not too far behind.

As always, if you have questions about Project Life or would like to learn more about it, check out http://www.beckyhiggins.com/.

Project Life-Week Five

I’m pretty much completely caught up with my Porject Life, so today I’m sharing week five and I’ll share weeks six and seven in the next few days until I’m ready to share my current weeks.

Highlights of the week included me going to the doctor to finally figure out what was going on with my ear (it had been plugged for five days), a small snow storm, Harper’s first time getting her toe nails painted and a visit from my mom and dad.

This week I used a lot of Ali Edwards digital overlays which can be bought at Designer Digitals. They’re an easy way to add a little interest to my photos.
DSC_0151

DSC_0152

I love this picture of the kids snuggling Jeremy.
DSC_0154

We got some snow on Thursday. They predicted a major blizzard, but it wasn’t really too bad. I used a button badge from EvaliciousDSC_0156

I used some American Crafts thickers here.
DSC_0158

And another one of Ali’s overlays on the photo of my food at dinner.

I, of course, am still enjoying this project so much.

If you’re confused about Project Life I encourage you to check out www.beckyhiggins.com.
